Miccosukee District

The Miccosukee District serves all units north of 54th Ave and up to Clearwater and Safety Harbor.  The north boundary line starts in the east going up the Tarpon Outfall Canal to  Curlew Road.  Then the line follows Curlew to US 19 and goes south to SR 580 where it goes west to Belcher.  The line then follows Belcher south to where it would intersect with Union, following Union west across the Intercostal Waterway, crossing the islands on the south edge of Caladesi Island State Park.

District Journey to Excellence (JTE)
We are proud to report that Miccosukee District has attained Silver status for 2014’s Journey To Excellence. Much like unit
JTE, the district is measured on certain metrics like its fundraising performance, recruitment and retention, Boy Scout and Cub Scout camping, community service hours, activity of our unit commissioner corps, unit leader training, and our district committee’s size and effectiveness.

Attaining Silver status for 2014 is no small feat. It requires the continued effort of literally everyone in the district to some
degree, but it goes without saying that our outgoing district chairman Ed Edstrand and outgoing district commissioner John
Smith did an outstanding job this year providing leadership to the district and its activities!

New District Chairman and District Commissioner
Following the District Annual Business Meeting in November, a new district chairman was elected to serve Miccosukee. Joe Fritz is no stranger to Scouting with a wide range of experience within the BSA. Serving as a Scoutmaster for Troop 417 and having received the Vigil Honor within the Order of the Arrow, Joe brings a unique and fresh perspective to the committee.

Following a successful period as a unit commissioner, Bill Nightingale is now taking on the roll of district commissioner for Miccosukee. Bill’s enthusiasm for Scouting, technology, and unit success injects a new dynamism into the commissioner service.

Be sure to congratulate these two Scouters when you seem them!
